Deadly Attack in Pakistan
Five Chinese nationals were tragically killed in an explosion during an assault on their convoy by a suicide bomber in northwest Pakistan. The attack occurred as the convoy of Chinese engineers was en route from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu, located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Regional police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur confirmed the fatalities, stating that along with the Chinese nationals, their Pakistani driver also lost his life in the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack thus far. According to Bisham Station House Officer Bakht Zahir, the incident was a “suicide blast,” and investigations are underway to determine the source and circumstances of the attack. Security measures have been intensified at the site, and the victims’ bodies are being transferred to a hospital for further procedures.
This unfortunate incident marks the third significant attack on Chinese interests in Pakistan within a week. Previous assaults targeted an airbase and a strategic port in Balochistan, where China has significant investment in infrastructure projects.
Chinese engineers and Pakistani workers have been engaged in various projects, including hydroelectric ventures, as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Khyber-Paktunkhwa. Dasu, particularly notable for its dam project, has sadly been subjected to previous attacks, including one in 2021 that resulted in the deaths of nine Chinese nationals and two Pakistani children
